JW Finn's : A Burger Salad Chicken Joint

JW FinnsThe Story of J.W. Finn's

Owner Jim Finninger, nicknamed “Finn” since high school, attended the University of Arizona for food service management.  Always knowing that he wanted to be in the restaurant business, in 1984 Jim and his brother Walter found the funding to open the first J.W. Finn’s.  (Hence the name J.W. Finn’s)  The first location was picked in Tyler, Texas and because of its proximity to Dallas (were Jim and Walter lived).  The first restaurant was located on Loop 323 and Old Troup Hwy and opened July 1985.

The next J.W. Finn’s was opened in 1986 in Dallas at Walnut Hill Lane and Central Expwy.  That location stayed open for one & a half years till a little restaurant concept name DAVE & BUSTERS moved in next door and purchased their space.

In 1988 Finn decided to open a restaurant at Lake Tyler, and opened FINN’S ON THE LAKE on Memorial Day.

The next restaurant opened in 1994 at Tyler Pounds Field Airport, called FINN’S AIRLINE CAFE’. J.W. Finn’s became a Tyler tradition for over 17 years, until the year 2000 when Finn decided to pursue other interest.

Finn started a new business servicing the restaurant industry, while still serving his Famous Fried Zucchini and Burgers at the East Texas State Fair.  In 2007, Finn sold his service business and stayed on with the new ownership till 2009.

In 2009, J.W. Finn’s was revitalized on South Broadway in Tyler, Texas.  With a similar menu, the new restaurant has some new items such as The Salad Station, Philly Cheese Steak and Grilled Shrimp.
